DermaPen takes the idea of micro-needling, which spurs your skin into creating fresh collagen by ‘controlled wounding’, one step further.

DermaPen is an excellent way to treat

  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • UV damaged skin
  • Overall skin rejuvenation
  • Large pores Scars (acne, surgical and burns)
  • Stretch marks
  • Smoker’s lines around the lips

What do you mean by Controlled Wounding?
When the skin experiences a tiny wound, like that of a miniscule needle, it rushes to repair the wound by instantly generating new collagen and elastin.

Collagen is the protein matrix that makes your skin firm, plump and smooth. As we age, or experience sun damage, scarring, lines and wrinkles, collagen production slows down drastically and skin begins to look lax.
In areas of repeated muscle movement, the overlying skin begins to become etched with lines, and as time and gravity continue to take their toll over skin cell turnover slows, resulting in a dull, matte, tired appearance.

What are the advantages of DermaPen over normal micro needling?

Micro needling is often performed using dermal rollers, but they can’t really get into the nooks and crannies of the face.

DermaPen, however, is ideal for using on all of the facial contours; uses disposable needles to eliminate the risk of cross contamination, and those needles have adjustable depths to allow the treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.

The stamping motion also causes less trauma to the epidermis by making smaller holes that the holes made by a dermal roller, resulting in less discomfort and less downtime.

DermaPen is great for treating atrophic and surgical scars because of its ability to effectively penetrate and break down scar tissue. The precise technique results in increased collagen and elastin in the treated area, to give you smoother skin that looks refreshed, restored and youthful.

At Cosmetic Doctor, Dr. Fay can use DermaPen in conjunction with beneficial skin products that are applied as the micro channels to the dermis are open, allowing maximum penetration to the dermal layer, further supporting collagen and elastin production.

How many treatments will I need?

It depends on your particular skin concerns, but most patients need between three and six treatments spaced several weeks apart, depending on the intensity of the treatment performed.

Dr. Fay can apply a topical anaesthetic to reduce discomfort, and patients will experience a ‘sunburned’ feeling and appearance shortly after treatment.

DermaPen for Acne and Surgical Scars

The micro needles of the DermaPen break up fibrous, uneven scar tissue; stimulate new collagen and elastin, and encourage growth of new capillaries to improve blood supply to the area.

As DermaPen is non-ablative, which means it keeps the integrity of the epidermis intact, it quickens healing time.

DermaPen for Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Lines and wrinkles caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking and poor hydration can be tackled with DermaPen, as it stimulates or ‘induces’ new, healthy collagen to grow and plump out lines and wrinkles.

Skin Rejuvenation

DermaPen treatments provide overall rejuvenation of the skin by improving micro-circulation in conjunction with collagen and elastin formation. This thickens the dermis, improving skin texture and tone, as well as giving you a much brighter appearance.

DermaPen to Minimise Pore Size

The two main culprits contributing to the appearance of enlarged pores are congested skin, and decreased skin elasticity (pores sag open). As DermaPen stimulates collagen and elastin to firm skin, pore appearance is reduced and skin decongested.

DermaPen for Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are caused by a tearing of the dermis; DermaPen will help repair damaged areas with the release of growth factors and stimulation of fibroblasts.
