My daughter has impetigo. Other kids in her class have this too? What is impetigo and how did she catch it?

Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection due to staphylococcus.

It is very common in children and can easily be passed from one child to another. Impetigo is very contagious, therefore it is important to use separate towels and flannels for infected children. Usually your doctor would recommend topical antibiotics if you have one or two small lesions. If however you have multiple patches then a combination of topical fusidic acid and oral flucloxacillin antibiotics are recommended.
