PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma treatment is well known for its ability to rejuvenate ageing and tired-looking skin.
But PRP can be a solution to hair loss in some patients, regenerating thinning hair and preventing further hair fallout.
What is PRP treatment?
PRP harnesses the natural, regenerating and rejuvenating power of growth factors in your blood.
We isolate the platelet-rich plasma (the PRP) from a small sample of your blood, and inject this into the treatment area.
PRP is a natural, effective and affordable treatment, and it gives amazing, long-lasting results.
What happens during the PRP procedure?
In PRP treatment, we draw a small amount of blood from your arm, in the same way that a blood sample is taken at the doctors.
We place a test tube containing the blood sample into a centrifuge that separates out the red blood cells from the PRP.
Using a very fine needle to minimise discomfort, we then inject the PRP into the treatment area. We may apply some pressure to the area following injection.
We may also use an anaesthetic cream to further reduce pain or discomfort during the procedure.

What can PRP hair rejuvenation treat?
PRP’s effectiveness as a hair rejuvenation treatment has been proven in clinical studies.
As long as you still have active follicles that can re-grow into stronger thicker hair, PRP may be an effective solution to:
– male and female pattern baldness
– alopecia areata (a medical condition in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles)
– thinning hair
– receding hairline
– thin eyebrows and eyelashes.
What are the benefits of PRP for hair loss?
The platelets in your blood contain bioactive proteins with specific growth factors.
These growth factors can act on the cells in hair follicles to promote a longer growth phase.
The growth factors work together to help nourish the dying follicles, stimulating new growth in the process and maintaining the viability of the treated hair follicle.
How many sessions of PRP will I need?
The full number of treatment sessions you need depends on your response to the procedure.
We may recommend further sessions based on the initial results. These will be at intervals of 1 to 2 months for a minimum of 6 months, to rescue all viable follicles.
We may also recommend a follow-up appointment after 2 months. This is for evaluation and to plan further management, with subsequent maintenance treatments to prevent relapse.
With PRP for hair rejuvenation, you should see the full results from 6 months to a year after starting your treatment.
