Chemical Facial Peels

Are all chemical peels equal? Are you confused about the various chemical peels available? Have images of Samantha in ” Sex and the City” put you off…

To restore a more youthful dewy complexion we can carry out chemical peels to resurface the skin. Sun damage, irregular pigmentation, blemishes and uneven skin tone and even acne breakouts can be eradicated using chemical peels. Be confident with radiant skin!

A Skin peel involves the application of a product to your skin which helps to slough away the surface dead skin layers revealing fresher smoother new skin cells. The resulting skin is plumper, fresher and more youthful. Peels are classified as either superficial, medium or deep. Chemical peels are contra-indicated in pregnancy, breastfeeding, active cold sores, keloid scars and certain medical conditions.

Which peels do we favour at CosmeticDoctor?

Agera Skin Peel

Agera peels are gentle peels which contain alpha, beta and polyhydroxy acids which are ideal for treating sun damage, anti-ageing and acne. The beauty of Agera peels is that there is no down time and you can return to your normal activities straight away. A course of 5 or more peels are necessary to achieve optimal results.

Neostrata glycolic acid peels

This group of naturally occurring acids are found in sugar cane. These peels result in a deep exfoliation and are an ideal treatment for acne, pigmented skin, and fine lines and wrinkles. If your complexion looks rough and dull in appearance, then Neostrata peels are ideal for you because it lifts away dead skin cells and give the skin a healthier, rejuvenated appearance.

The glycolic acid solution is applied to the skin for between 3-10 minutes depending on your skin type, and then neutralized, or washed off. This causes the upper layers of the skin in the treated areas to peel away over a period of several days. Often the peeling is not visible to the naked eye.

We prefer the Neostrata range because of the low PH of the acid. The acidity of the peel is an important factor in the effectiveness of the peel. Neostrata’s lowest strength peel has a low PH which means that the 20% peel is more effective that some 70% peels with a higher PH. A course of 5 or more peels are necessary to achieve optimum results.

TCA Peels

TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) peels are a slightly more aggressive class of chemical peel which can only be administered in a medical clinic. TCA peels are effective in treating many conditions, including weathered skin, freckling, pigmentation, sun damage, fine wrinkles, and shallow acne scars. Typically your skin peels for 7-10 days. It is vital to apply Sun protection after your peel. TCA peels are applied to the skin until a white frost becomes visible. When the peel is applied there may be a burning sensation. The peel works by drying up the the top layers of the skin called the epidermis and dermis revealing a new layer of healthier skin.

If you want to do something nice and worthwhile for your skin consider chemical skin peels.
