Most women in Ireland are taking better care of themselves than ever before; we are more health aware and enjoy looking glamorous well into our later years.

Often the only thing giving away our age is the inevitable fine lines and wrinkles that are a result of hereditary factors; sun damage or the simple passage of time.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectable; Quick and Easy

There is an easy and affordable way to erase these wrinkles effectively with a quick, painless treatment.  Cosmetic Doctor at the Slievemore Clinic has successfully used anti-wrinkle injectables to treat facial lines and wrinkles, using a safe and effective product made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

There are many advantages to using this product, (referred to universally as botox), which is the brand name of the original product made by Allergen, albeit with a capital ‘B’). It does more than just eradicate the creases; it can lift the appearance of the whole face making you look youthful and refreshed.

The great thing about an anti-wrinkle injectable is that the results are very quick, usually becoming evident between 3 -5 days after the treatment; the treatment itself takes only minutes.

It’s simple, safe and non-surgical, performed with a fine needle, and patients can go back to their daily lives immediately. Known as a ‘lunchtime’ procedure, the needle’s work usually undetectable until a few days later.

For people who are hesitant about choosing an anti-aging treatment; understanding how it works usually allays any anxiety or hesitancy.

How does an Anti-Wrinkle Injectable Work?

It serves to block the signal from the nerves to the muscles, so that the injected muscle doesn’t contract. It relaxes, and the overlying skin relaxes too, so the wrinkle softens considerably, often simply disappearing altogether.

What are the Treatable Areas?

It’s highly effective for frown lines between the brows, forehead lines and other lines on the face. As Cosmetic Doctor will explain to you at your consultation, an anti-wrinkle injectable containing the bacterium Clostridium botulinum is most beneficial to dynamic wrinkles; that is hose that appear and disappear with facial movements.

For static wrinkles, i.e. those caused by sun damage, advanced aging and gravity, there are other products that will be recommended as more effective.

What does the Procedure Involve?

Once you have determined the areas of the face suitable for the product, you’ll be asked to frown so that the specific muscles responsible for the ovement are evident.

A thorough understanding of the underlying musculature of the face is important in performing these injections, which is why you should always receive them form qualified MD or doctor led clinic.

A very fine needle is used to inject the product and it only takes a couple of minutes depending on how many areas you’re having treated.

Does it hurt?

The injections are usually painless; a little needle prick that lasts a moment. Anaesthesia is not required, although if you are very sensitive you can discuss the options with Dr. Fay.

You’ll see results in three-seven days, as the wrinkles relax. People who have injections in their frown lines often notice a visible lifting of the entire eye area, making them look more alert, younger and more refreshed.

Do I need to worry about Side-Effects?

The most common side effect is a temporary bruising, which resolves quickly. Rarely, patient may get a headache, which also goes away quickly. Very occasionally there may be eyelid drooping-this is often as a result of the injectable product being moved around, so don’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after the procedure, and don’t lie down for a few hours afterwards

How Long Do Effects Last?

It varies by patient, but typically the effects should last between four and six months. You’ll notice the muscle action gradually returning, and your wrinkles reappear, so you can book another treatment. You will see that the lines often look less severe with time, as the muscles are being trained to relax with each repeat treatment.
