Life is written on Your Face.

Every smile, every frown-the evidence accumulates over time until one day you simply can’t ignore the fact that yes; you do indeed have wrinkles and they make you look so old. It’s unfair, especially as most of us still feel like we’re 20 on the inside.

Wrinkles and fine lines are aging, interfere with the application of make-up, and can really affect a person’s self-esteem. Many of us go to great lengths to keep our bodies fit and healthy-so why should we have to endure such obvious aging on our face?

Happily, advances in medical and cosmetic technology over the last decade mean we can now look the same on the outside as we feel on the inside. Anti-wrinkle injections are incredibly effective; affordable and the results are phenomenal.

What Causes Wrinkles?

Over time, the skin on your face shows signs of wear and tear. The dermal layer gets thinner, and less collagen (the substance that naturally ‘plumps’ skin) is produced. The elastin fibres that used to provide elasticity wear out too, and these changes in the scaffolding of your skin cause it to sag.

Sun damage and dehydration only add to the problem, and so most of us start looking a little tired by our late thirties. A lifetime of constant facial muscle contractions, together with gravity and the changes in our aging skin, leave us with wrinkles.

We get frown lines between our brows; horizontal, dry looking lines across the forehead; little spindly lines around our eyes when we smile (crow’s feet) and lines running from the edge of the nose to the corners of our mouth (naso-labial). If you’re suffering from any of these unwanted lines; take heart-they’re all treatable.

How Do Anti-Wrinkle Injections Work?

A medication called Botulinium Toxin, or BTX-A, is injected into the muscle around the wrinkle. This stops nerve impulses from stimulating the muscle, so it relaxes and the overlying skin softens and smoothes out considerably.

The result is that the wrinkle is greatly reduced-in many cases, disappears altogether-and you have a much more youthful, rested appearance. The effects are usually noticeable within a few days, and last up to six months, depending on the patient.

You’ll have a subtly improved look; aside from the now-banished wrinkles the face often looks more

Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections Safe?

The Botulinium Toxin has been used all over the world to treat a variety of medical conditions, and has been safely and successfully used in cosmetic procedures for over 10 years.

The needles used to inject the face are very fine, so most patients experience no discomfort other than a brief sting as the needle goes in. Often there isn’t any bleeding at all; or a tiny spot of blood at the site which is immediately wiped away.

What Do I Do Afterwards?

Having an anti-wrinkle injection at Cosmetic Doctor only takes about 30 minutes. As Dr. Lisa Fay is a Medical Doctor, she has a full and complete understanding of the underlying musculature of the face, and will ensure the correct area is being targeted to address the wrinkles you’re concerned about.

She’ll advise you not to touch or manipulate the area for a few hours after treatment in case you inadvertently interfere with the dispersal of the medication. Don’t lie down afterwards for the same reason, or have facial massage, or anything that would alter the absorption of the medication.

It’s best to avoid alcohol for about 24 hours, as well as strenuous exercise, to give the BTX-A a chance to work properly. You’ll see results in a few days; it can vary by patient, but certainly within 10 days at the most.

The muscle starts to reactivate after 4-6 months; it’s gradual and you’ll know when it’s time to visit Cosmetic Doctor when you notice the results beginning to wear off.
