Like any good cosmetic procedure, lip enhancement should be subtle and natural-looking; not ridiculous or obvious. We’ve come a long way from the ‘trout pout’ and you can get fuller, plumper, luscious lips without looking overdone, at Cosmetic Doctor in Dublin.

Dr. Lisa Fay is known for her aesthetic approach to cosmetic procedures, and uses injectable types of dermal fillers containing substances similar to hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body, and helps increase volume in your lips.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers can improve the appearance of your lips by adding shape, structure and volume. They can be used to give definition to your lips; evening them out or plumping up thin lips.

There are several products on the market that are used for this purpose, from Restylane to Juvederm, to Belotero Balance, depending on the patient and the effect they wish to achieve. Many contain lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Once injected, the gel in the filler supports and shapes the tissues of the lips. Using hyaluronic acid allows:

Control over lip volume. The amount of substance injected can be controlled, so Dr. Fay can create the most appropriate volume to the lips to create symmetry and balance to the face.

Bumps dissolve easily. Any lumps and bumps created by movement of the lips can be dissolved easily.

Less bruising. There may be less bruising and swelling compared to other dermal fillers.

Reasonably lasting results. The results are reasonably long-lasting, but not permanent.

Allergic reaction unlikely. Because hyaluronic acid fillers are made from substances similar to those found in the body, they are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction (if you have a known lidocaine allergy make sure you tell Dr. Fay)

During the Procedure

Injectable lip enhancement techniques can be performed quickly in the Cosmetic Doctor Clinic, with little to no downtime.

Before the injections, a topical or local numbing agent may be applied to ease discomfort. Sometimes injections can be given before the treatment to completely numb the lips if patients are very sensitive.

Then a very fine needle is used to make several injections in and around the lip area.

Following injection, ice may be given to ease discomfort and control swelling. Don’t put any pressure on the mouth and avoid applying lipstick or other lip products immediately after the procedure.

You’ll notice a difference immediately, and your lips may be a bit swollen initially but will settle down after a day or two, depending on the patient. After this, they will look and feel very natural.
