Dermal Filler for Eye Bags and Dark Circles using gentle microcannula method

Dark circles occur in men and women, but seem more common in females. In many cases, they are hereditary, so no matter how much sleep you get or how healthy your diet and hydration levels are, you may have dark skin under the eye area which makes you look older; tired and drawn.

Eye bags, the loose skin that sags under the eye area, is even more ageing; and many people don’t want to commit to the risk, expense or downtime of surgery to get rid of them.

For both eye bags and dark circles, there are non-invasive treatments available at Cosmetic Doctor using dermal fillers that can make a marked improvement to your appearance without having to submit to the knife.

Aesthetic medicine is advancing all the time, and now there are several minimally invasive solutions available to tackle the skin under the eyes with dermal fillers.

Now, new advances in aesthetic medicine offer patients a minimally invasive solution: dermal fillers. Dr. Lisa Fay uses dermal fillers such as Radiesse; Juvaderm and Restylane to reduce the appearance of dark circles and bags.

The choice of dermal filler will depend on the patient; the extent of the problem, and their skin tone and texture. Every patient is evaluated as an individual and Dr. Fay tailors her approach according to their expectations; particular concerns and skin type. She has a range of advanced fillers to choose from and is known for her subtle, natural looking results.

What Causes Dark Circles & Bags?

They can appear in men and women, and can be caused by multiple factors. In most individuals, the skin directly under the eyes is very thin- far thinner than that on the rest of the face – so the muscle and blood vessels can be seen more clearly. This is why almost all of us have some degree of darkness under the eyes, and why concealer sales are high!

As we get older, this already-thin skin becomes even thinner, and we lose the natural insulating layer of fat beneath our skin. This causes underlying structures, like fat, to become more pronounced. What looks like puffiness that has appeared beneath the eyes is actually the fat that has always been there, now more visible due to thinning and hollowing in the area. If you don’t have prominent cheekbones, it looks even more pronounced.

How Can Dermal Fillers Help?

Before advancements in dermal filler, the traditional approach used to be fat removal from the area with surgery- though this didn’t always look great.

Today’s cosmetic doctors have a different approach; that is to restore the insulating layer with fillers, which add volume and hydration. This smooths out indentations and bags, as well as the shadows they create.

Dr. Fay can also use dermal fillers to improve cheek projection, which provides additional support to the area for an improved under-eye appearance.

Gentle Procedure using cannula

For a gentler injection procedure, Dr. Fay uses an innovative microcannula injection method. These blunt-ended microcannulas cut fewer arteries and veins than needles, resulting in significantly less after-treatment bruising and swelling. The microcannula allows Dr. Fay to restore volume to even the delicate under-eye area in a way that appears natural.

Using the microcannula, Dr. Fay injects a small amount of the dermal filler material below the eyes or along the cheek bone. The type of filler, the amount of filler, and the location of the injections will be determined based on each person’s unique anatomy and the exact concerns being addressed.

Results are almost immediate and will generally last anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on the filler used. The treatment can be repeated regularly to maintain attractive results.

Side effects from dermal fillers are swelling, bruising, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site; they are all sort-lived and resolve swiftly on their own- Dr. Fay will go over the details of what to expect with each patient. She will also explain realistic expectations of what dermal fillers can achieve, and that the length of time you can expect your dermal filler to last varies from person to person.
