You’ve heard of Micro-Needling, a process that involves rolling a device filled with tiny needles over the skin to penetrate the dermal layer.

Dermapen is the new industry standard in advanced Micro-Needling, and provides excellent results. It’s quite a revolutionary device, and has some distinct advantages over dermal rollers for certain areas of the body.

How Does Micro-Needling Work Exactly?

The premise behind Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy), is to stimulate the production of new collagen, using our skin’s ability to heal itself.

The tiny needles used in skin Micro-Needling make microscopic channels in the dermis, triggering the body’s healing response. This stimulates production of new collagen and elastin, so your skin plumps up, looking refreshed and radiant.

Why is Dermapen different?

Micro-Needling is often performed with a dermal roller-but the human face isn’t flat, so getting a roller into all the nooks and crannies is a bit of a challenge.

Also, although some dermal rollers are available for home use, not are all created equal-in fact there can be a danger of needles breaking off and becoming lodged in the skin unless you have the process performed using medical grade equipment.

Dermapen is a far more precise way to work on facial skin as it’s easy to manoeuvre around facial contours and delicate features.

Safer and More Effective

Slievemore Clinic uses Dermapen because everyone’s face is different, and the needle depth on Dermapen can be adjusted during treatment. It’s safer and more effective than dermal roller, and there is no danger of breaking or bending the little needles on the skin.

It’s a clever design, with a spring-loaded tip that uses an automated motion, so it’s much easier to control than other Micro-Needling devices.

What is so good about the dermapen device?

The dermapen is the latest development in medical skin needling. It results in fractionated skin needling for collagen stimulation. A person’s skin complexion is one of the first things we notice.

Medical Microneedling creates in micro injuries to the skin to stimulate collagen production and results in rejuvenated glowing skin. Dermapen uses multiple needles that vertically pierce the skin. This enhances rejuvenation results and is a very safe procedure because there is much less epidermal damage than with ablative lasers.

The dermapen device is more comfortable than traditional micro-needling because the needles are smaller . Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin to ensure patient comfort. Your skin is cleansed with antiseptic first. A hyaluronic acid gel is applied to your skin.

The advantage of dermapen over conventional skin needling rollers is that it can treat difficult areas such as around the eyes and upper lip which are often difficult to treat effectively with conventional rollers.

Dermapen treats wrinkles, acne, scars, and burn scars.

Dermapen is just as effective as ablative treatments such as Fraxel and Laser Resurfacing. Dermapen treatments are a fraction of the price of fraxel treatments.

Dermapen can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as IPL and Restylane skinboosters for an effective anti-ageing regimen.

Cost €250 euro per treatment.

What conditions can Dermapen be used for?

Slievemore Clinic staff will carefully asses your particular skin issues and determine the best course of treatment for you. Dermapen can be used on the following skin problems:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Keloid scarring (very think, ridged scar tissue)
  • Stretch marks
  • Pigmentation marks

Use of the Dermapen can even be combined with other treatments to maximise results, and it’s terrific for increasing absorption of topical solutions like Vitamin C and moisturisers.
