Information Series: 3 Step Stimulation Peel

3 Step Stimulator Peel

3 step stimulator peel is the newest addition to the family of peels brought to us by Dr Zein Obagi. This peel is different because it doesn’t have as much downtime, but yet the results are still remarkable! This month in our information series we will interview our model who recently had a 3 step stimulator peel and find out what to expect, but first- What is a 3 step peel? And what can it do for you?

What is the 3 Step Stimulation peel?

The 3 step stimulator peel has 3 different ingredients, and has 3 steps! The ingredients are:

Step 1:

  • Salicylic acid
  • Lactic acid
  • Trichloracetic acid

Step 2:

  • 6% retinol cream is applied directly after your peel and then more is applied after 5 hours

Step 3:

  • A calming cream that is applied straight after your peel and then several times for the days following your peel.

What will the peel do for you?

The 3 step stimulation peel is great for:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Deep/ large pores
  • Melasma and other pigmentation issues
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Badly textured skin
  • Acne prone skin
  • Sun damage
  • Rough skin
  • Dull skin
Why did you decide to have this peel done?

I was unhappy with my skin as I had enlarged pores and uneven skin tone, my skin has recently had an acne flare up.  I wanted the peel done to address these issues.

Describe the procedure?

The doctor cleansed my skin first and removed all traces of make-up. Then she applied a few coats of the peel to my skin, it took about three minutes to apply the peel, then she applied a sachet of retinol cream followed by the calming lotion. I was instructed to wash my skin after 5 hours and apply the second half of the cream. The next morning I could wash it off again. I applied the calming cream as often as needed.

Can you describe the sensation?

The peel felt hot and uncomfortable at times, though it was very quick- once the doctor applied the cream my skin started to feel cooler within minutes. I was also given a fan to use to keep my skin cool.

What should you expect after the peel?

The cream that the doctor applies is yellow, so your skin is yellow for 5 hours following the peel, you should also expect the following:

  • Red skin
  • Peeling skin
  • Skin feels tight
  • Mild discomfort
  • Some swelling can occur
  • Skin can be itchy from time to time

These symptoms can be helped by using the calming cream given to you by your doctor.

How long after your procedure does it take for skin to start peeling?

My skin started to peel the next day, by day 3 the skin appeared flaky but the main peeling was finished. The skin peels consistently and it can be disguised under make up. It isn’t very noticeable to other people.

How often do you need to get the 3 step stimulation peel?

This would depend on your skin issue but up to three peels are all that should be necessary spaced every 6 weeks.

Who is suitable for the peel?

The peel is safe to use on most skin types, though you will need to be using ZO products to prep your skin for the peel, this will give you the best results for your skin issue, it will also ensure that your skin will accept the peel better and not have any strange reactions. It is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Were you happy with the results?

I had my peel done 3 days ago and I am starting to see a real difference in my skin. My pores are smaller and my skin tone already looks more even, I am looking forward to seeing the end result.
