A Quick Guide to Facial Veins Treatment Options

As we get older we can often develop small veins on the face which may vary in size and colour, these can be unsightly and difficult to disguise. Both men and women suffer from facial veins, and there are a number of different reasons why they develop. If you enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, where your facial skins is exposed to heat and wind you are at risk of developing broken veins, or if you smoke you are also at risk. Although some people just find that they develop over time for no reason at all! The good news is there are options available to treat these veins. You can have bright, clear skin again with just a few quick treatments at Cosmetic Doctor at Slievemore clinic!

What are the treatment options?

The treatment options depend on what kind of veins you have, you will require a consultation to decide how best to treat the veins. The two options for facial vein removal are IPL treatment and Nd-Yag laser treatments. The most popular choice of laser to treat facial veins is usually IPL.

IPL (Intense Pulsed light) works by emitting light which is absorbed by the targeted lesion (vein) When the light that is absorbed reaches the level of the skin containing our collagen it changes to heat energy, this causes the vein to heat up which damages and eliminates the vein. This does not damage the surrounding skin, which makes it a safe and effective treatment option.

How many treatments are required?

The average amount is 1-2 treatments for small veins and larger veins may require up to 4 treatments. We usually recommend that you have a full face treatment, as people who suffer from veins may suffer from larger veins elsewhere on the face. A full face treatment improves the overall facial appearance, which results in a more uniform complexion with smoother skin texture. It takes between 15-30 minutes to treat the face.

What type of machine is used at Cosmetic Doctor?

We use the Luminus IPL Quantum laser here for our IPL work. It has a variety of treatment settings which allow us to tailor your treatment specifically for your skin type.

What happens during the treatment?

We apply a cold gel to the skin, and we will ask you to wear eye protection glasses during your treatment, which protects your eyes from the laser light. We will then treat the skin using a hand held flat device with a smooth glass surface. The sensation is like a snap of elastic band on the skin which may sting a little, but most patient find the procedure very tolerable. Immediately after your treatment you will be given a cold compress to apply to your skin, this minimises swelling and redness. Although some redness may persist, it will quickly return to normal. After about 3 – 4weeks you will need to return for your next treatment. Before you know it you will have clear skin, with long term results.

We usually recommend attending for a cosmetic consult to discuss your treatment options, when you find the right option for you, we will guide you through the process from beginning to end! Call 01 685 3100 to book your course of facial laser vein treatment!
