Even if you’ve been genetically blessed with good skin, it will start to look dull as the years go by. Our pale Celtic complexion doesn’t age very well; we get wrinkles; we tend to scar easily, and sun damage is very evident on our Hibernian cheeks.

What exactly is a TCA Peel?

There are many different types of chemical peels, designed to be used in different concentration and over different lengths of time. Some used are to target specific skin issues, like acne scarring; some are used to brighten up the complexion every now and then.

An Easy TCA Chemical Peel is used to improve the texture of your skin by removing the damaged surface layer.

The chemical used is a trichloroacetic acid (hence the name, TCA), and is used in a concentration that must be applied by a professional, but is safe and effective.

What can a TCA Peel do for me?

An Easy TCA Peel will improve a whole range of skin imperfections, including

  • Acne or acne scars
  • Age and liver spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Irregular skin pigmentation
  • Rough skin and scaly patches
  • Scars
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Enlarged facial pores

A chemical peel is a great non-invasive way to brighten up skin tone, and can be used on the neck, décolletage and hands, as well as the face.

Have you ever seen women with expensive, expertly applied cosmetics, in a fabulous designer gown, who  have a neck and décolletage like that of an old turkey? An Easy TCA Peel can get rid of that crêpey skin, too.

How does the Easy TCA Peel Work?

Most of the unsightly problems-the dark spots; fine lines, rough skin and so on-are on the top layer of your skin. The Easy TCA Peel does what it says on the tin, so to speak-it peels away that top layer of damaged skin.

It also stimulates collagen and elastin production, which leaves you a beautiful, fresh complexion.

It works well on everybody, and only takes about 15 minutes. Younger skins only need one or two peels to look brighter; older skin with more surface problems will need a course of four treatments, at least one week apart to allow healing between each treatment.

What Can I Expect After a TCA Peel?

The skin is usually a bit red for half an hour after the treatment, and it’s important to stay out of the sun, and to wear sun protection factor, as your skin will be quite vulnerable afterwards. The actual peeling process, when the damaged skin starts to slough off, starts about 3 days after the treatment and is usually finished by day 7.

The main issue people have with a TCA Peel is that make-up doesn’t sit quite right as the surface skin is sloughing off. It’s minimal, and you don’t have to miss work, but it’s similar to coming back from a sun holiday and having your ‘colour’ peel off over a few days.

Can I get a stronger Peel than the Easy TCA?

If you have deeper lines and can’t come back for a four-week course of treatments, Dr. Fay can apply a stronger peel to your skin, called Unideep.

It gives the same results as four consecutive Easy TCA Peels would, but as it’s so much stronger all in one sitting, you will have downtime afterwards- you’ll be out of circulation for a week, as the peeling process is fairly unattractive!

If you’re not sure what will work best for you, or you have deeper wrinkles or other skin imperfections, a consultation at Slievemore Clinic will explain the various options, features, benefits and aftercare required for the treatments recommended for you.
