How INTRAcel works

INTRAcel is a step up from more traditional laser resurfacing treatments. It uses fine needles that are insulated all along their length save for the tips, which are directed deep into the skin. Radio-frequency is released from the uninsulated tip of the needles, which stimulates the production of the skins support matrix, collagen.

It combines three different skin rejuvenating technologies in one treatment – radio frequency, microneedling and fractional laser in one simple procedure. The very tiny needles can penetrate deep into the dermis, and heat the tissue in microsecond bursts.

The body’s response to this kind of ‘controlled wounding’ is to produce fresh collagen, leading to a far healthier and tighter skin structure.

Minimal downtime; minimal discomfort; maximum results

As the treatment can be finely targeted, the surrounding skin is undamaged which minimises both discomfort and downtime for the patient.

What happens during the INTRAcel Treatment?

The INTRAcel treatment is performed at Dr. Fay’s clinic, and to maximise patient comfort she will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to the area being treated, which is allowed to soak into the skin before commencing the procedure.

The treatment itself can take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being addressed. The head of the INTRAcel device is passed over the skin, with minute pauses for the needles to penetrate. The sensation is a vague prickling, followed by a feeling of warmth. Several passes over the treatment area are required for maximum results during each session.

What can I expect to see after INTRAcel Treatment?

Patients can expect to see a firming and tightening of the skin on the jaw and neck; wrinkle reduction on that delicate skin, and a more defined contour.

You’ll notice the difference after the first treatment, and after a few sessions the results will continue to improve for up to six months as the body responds by generating new collagen and a firmer tone and texture, eliminating a lot of skin laxity.

How many treatments will I need?

In general, Dr. Fay will recommend between three and five treatments, but it depends on the patient and their individual concerns. Treatments will be spaced out over several weeks to allow the skin to respond at its own pace, which varies from patient to patient.

What are the side effects?

The needles will cause miniscule little pinpoints of bleeding which settles after a couple of minutes. Patients will have a sensation like mild sunburn for about an hour after the procedure, which resolves fairly quickly, though the skin will stay red for up to a day. This is a sign that the skin is responding normally as it’s healing deep within the dermis.

Initially there will be tiny pinpoint bleeding which will settle in a few minutes. You will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for about an hour after treatment, then virtually no discomfort.

Dr. Fay strongly recommends the use of a high SPF (30+) after treatment to protect your skin as it heals, and you need to keep using it throughout your course of treatments.
