Anti-Aging and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments with Restylane Dermal Filler
Can you turn back time? You can, if you have a good cosmetic doctor!
A healthy lifestyle, no smoking, lots of hydration and a decent diet will help stave off signs of aging on your skin; but the wrinkles still creep up on us. Happily, we have the option to reverse the more obvious signs of aging and eliminate the appearance of wrinkles, by ‘filling’ them in.
Using specialised dermal filler, we can plump up the area where the wrinkle lies, effectively making it disappear. Dermal fillers are used on many types of facial lines, particularly those around the mouth. One of the most well-known and trusted of these is called Restylane, and in expert hands Restylane can turn back the clock.
Trusted and Safe
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler, approved by the FDA and used in over 70 countries to help the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has a well-established track record of safety, with over 10 million successful treatments globally.
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is completely compatible with the body-in fact we produce hyaluronic acid ourselves in our connective tissues and in the fluid surrounding our eyes. This compatibility is important, as it means our body doesn’t react negatively or reject the substance being injected.
How Does Restylane Work?
When hyaluronic acid is injected into targeted areas of the face, it acts like an inflated cushion to support the skin, adding much needed volume in places where the skin has sagged into a wrinkle.
Restylane is ideal for ‘plumping up’ facial lines, and also attracts water to the surface of the skin, helping it to look fresh and supple. It’s used for frown lines; smile lines; and the lines that run from the nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial lines-they look like giant commas on your face).
Smokers inevitably suffer skin damage, not just from the toxicity of cigarettes, but also from the constant mechanical action of sucking on them. The lines that form around the mouth as a result are extremely aging; and on women they make lipstick bleed into the little crevices, further highlighting the problem.
Restylane helps minimize the appearance of these wrinkles around the mouth area-although as Dr.Fay will tell you, the more permanent solution is to stop smoking.
Lip Enhancement with Restylane
It can also be used for lip augmentation, as when we get older our lips thin out and can give us a dour appearance. Restylane restores a plumper, fuller lip when injected around the margins of the lip area (the ‘Vermillion border’) and you can tailor the look to your desired result.
Restylane Treatment
A local anaesthetic gel is applied to the area of skin to be treated, to minimize any discomfort. Dr. Fay will consult with you about the areas of your face to be treated, and the expected improvements you will see.
The treatment itself doesn’t take very long, but it’s normal to have a little swelling and redness around the site of injection, so it’s best to have the procedure well in advance of any major event or occasion to allow your skin to look its best. Some people may get a little bruising for a few days, depending on skin type and age.
It’s vital to have Restylane treatments performed by a qualified dermatologist, as the specific site injections and subsequent dispersal of the medication must be precise to avoid undue swelling and lump under the skin.
How Long Does Restylane Treatment Last?
Restylane will last between six and nine months, depending on the patient; lip augmentations last for about six months. You can expect a significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and an overall softer, more youthful, attractive appearance.
