ipl-laser-suite-dublin-featuredIPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light involves using waves from the visible light spectrum is pulsed into the skin designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. IPL treatment also results in collagen stimulation resulting in rejuvenated skin.

The skin aging process results in small but visible signs of sun damage appearing in our complexion. The net result is freckling, broken capillaries, dark spots, a blotchy skin color and redness of the face and neck. IPL laser treatment treats vascular redness, sun spots, sun damage. Treatments require 15- 30 minutes. Using IPL treatments dramatic improvements can now be accomplished with little or no “downtime” and with minimal discomfort. IPL treatments can be used as an anti-aging program in people as young as 30 years of age. Photorejuvenation results in a clearer and plumper complexion and a smoother skin tone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does The Skin Look Like After an IPL Photorejuvenation treatment?
After your treatment your skin will feel warm and look slightly flushed. Mild swelling and bruising may occur which will resolve itself within 24 hours. Most patients can return to work immediately after treatment. The neck and chest areas may have slightly longer down time but this can be covered with a scarf. If pigmentation or sun damage is being treated then the pigment will darken following the treatment which can take 4-10 days to fade.

How Many Sessions Are Required?
A series of 4-6 IPL photorejuvenation treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Periodic re-treatments are required to optimize long-term results.

How Do I Find Out If I Am A Candidate For Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation?
Dr. Fay and her staff will be happy to discuss Photorejuvenation treatments with you.

How is IPL Photorejuvenation performed?
Cool gel is applied to the treatment area and you will be given dark glasses to wear for eye protection. The IPL™ hand piece is applied to the skin and pulses of light are applied. The sensation is like a slight sting like ” like a splash of hot fat”. Anaesthetic cream may be used if required. Treatment is generally administered in a series of 4 to 6 sessions that provide excellent long-term results,

Can anyone be treated?
We treat both males and females at Cosmetic Doctor. We do not treat pregnant females. Treatments are contraindicated if you have a sun tan or fake tan at the time of treatment.

Who will be treating me?
Qualified medical professionals will be performing your IPL treatment. Treatments are overseen by a Doctor. All practitioners hold a BTEC qualification in Laser and IPL treatments and regularly update their qualifications. A copy of Practitioners qualifications and insurance cover is available on request and can be found in the clinics reception area.

Is there anything I can do before a consultation to prepare the treatment area?
Yes. It is also very important that there is no tan in the treatment area. This includes fake tans, sun bed tan and tan from the sun.

What will happen during the consultation?.
You will be assessed for suitability i.e. the practitioner will examine the treatment area and take a medical history. The treatment will be explained to you.

What happens after the consultation?
No treatment can proceed without the area first being patch tested. This can be completed at the consultation stage.

What is the cost of the patch test?
50 euro but this will be deducted from the first treatment.

What will happen during my patch test?
A small area in the treatment site will be tested using various treatment settings. Observations will be recorded by the practitioner and you will be asked for your feedback. These teats are carried out to further eliminate some of the risks associated with the treatment.

Once I have had the patch test what do I do?
You will be asked to observe the treatment area for 2-7 days (depending on skin type). If during that time you note any concerns you must contact the clinic and inform them. If however no adverse response is noted treatment can then be arranged shortly after this patch test.

Do I have to protect the area after treatment?
It is important that you avoid sun exposure for at least 1 week after treatment. Sun block is recommended after your treatment.

How much will it cost?
Prices vary from area to area.
Costs will be discussed during the consultation
