Laser hair removal is the best way to get rid of unwanted hair and a far more permanent solution than shaving or waxing, and leaves you with silky smooth skin. No ingrown hairs, no shaving rash, no excruciating ripping out of hairs. At Cosmetic Doctor, we only use the highest standard of medical laser equipment.

All laser hair removal treatments at Cosmetic Doctor, Slievemore Clinic are carried out by our practice nurse Jennie and experienced therapist Louise using top of the range medical grade lasers for maximum safety and efficiency.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Lasers work by producing intense light that is absorbed by the melanin, or colour in a strand of hair. The laser heats up the hair follicle, destroying the hair at its root, without damaging any of the surrounding lighter skin. Not to be confused with “Intense Pulsed Light”, which is better suited to treating skin discolouration.

Most Irish people, with our typical pale skin and dark hair, are excellent candidates for laser treatment. Some patients may have darker skin. In these patients Cosmeticdoctor use a specialised laser that allows us to treat people with many differing skin tones

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

It certainly doesn’t hurt as muh as waxing or shaving in the cold! Most people describe the feeling as a “hot pinch”, or snap of an elastic band against the skin.

What Areas can be Treated?

Most areas of the body are suitable for laser hair removal, the most frequently requested treatments being the bikini line, underarms, legs and face.

Excess facial hair in women can be associated with an underlying hormonal causes such as Polcystic Ovarian Syndrome, which will be discussed and treated by Dr. Lisa Fay.

Laser Treatments for Men

Many male patients have discovered the joy of laser hair removal on unsightly back hair or excessive chest hair. It’s ideal for men who don’t want to be tied to a regime of regular waxing or who wouldn’t dream of taking a razor to anything lower than their chin!
